Don Henley, founding member of the Eagles (and democrat fund raising supporter -- MattWalsh ) and leader of the artists' coalition, says he hopes that highlighting industry accounting practices at a time when the issue is hot throughout the rest of corporate America will capture the attention of lawmakers in California as well as Washington, D.C.

The industry has taken issue with artists who are well-to-do yet are wanting more -- in some cases those artists make more than the labels. Henley says there are a number of artists who are struggling now because they never got their fair shake.

He added recording companies don't respond to requests for royalties unless there is threat of legal action, he said, a contention the labels deny.

"It doesn't matter how well-to-do you are, how successful you are," Henley said. "Unfair is unfair."
